The story of the Business School cannot be told without commending the leadership vision of the late Professor Andam, former Vice Chancellor of KNUST and professor Seth Buatsi, the first dean of KSB. Mr. Yeboah, the first registrar of KSB also contributed immensely to establishing the Business School and laying the structures and policies that have brought us this far. Since the establishment of the business school, various staff (especially administrative staff) have contributed to our growth and even though some of them are not currently with the Business School, we would like to say a big thank you for the good job you did when you were with us.
The Immediate Past Dean, Prof. Frimpong stepped down from his position in 2015, leaving behind a brilliant legacy that includes the creation of new academic programmes and tremendous improvements to enrolment, student satisfaction, job placement, staff development and staff research output.
Highlights of KSB Achievements
- Increase in enrolment: Enrolment in the business school has increased nearly 60 percent. Student satisfaction has also improved greatly.
- Successful Re-accreditation of BSc. And MBA Programmes: In 2012, KSB constituted a Curriculum Review Exercise that led to the reaccreditation of KSB’s programmes by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) after a rigorous review in the areas of curriculum, faculty contributions, strategic goals, and staff development, resource generation, among other areas.
- Establishment of Master of Science Programmes: All the departments in KSB have established Master of Science Programmes with the department of Supply Chain and Information Systems being the first to roll out their programme in 2014 with an inaugural class of 35.
- Aggressive Staff Development: Under the auspices of the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ellis, KSB has embarked on an aggressive staff development programme that has led to a number of KSB lecturers attaining terminal PhD degrees. This has tremendously boosted the image of the school and the quality of its teaching and research staff.
- Establishment of the West African Institute for Supply Chain Leadership (WAISCL): WAISCL is a Supply chain management (SCM) focused education, research and training unit within the KNUST Business School. WAISCL is a collaboration between KNUST School of Business (KSB), the PanAvest Foundation and Dr. Douglas Boateng. The WAISCL project is housed within KSB in Kumasi Ghana. Currently, WAISCL is the first of its kind in the sub-region it hopes to establish international partnerships with both industry and academia in order to enable it to provide cutting edge research that is industry relevant as well as provide world class training solutions and executive education.
- Establishment of a Business Incubator/Entrepreneurship Centre: KSB has recently inaugurated a business incubator centre at KSB to help guide students with entrepreneurial ideas and nurture their projects.
- Establishment of Professional Certification Programmes: KSB has collaborated with several professional bodies in providing certification. This has improved the professional outlook of our students. It is not surprising to find a second or third year undergraduate student at KSB who is a chartered member of a professional body. Please see the ‘programmes section’ of our website for more information if you are interested in professional certification.
- Infrastructure Development: In 2011, KSB moved into the new Business Building behind the engineering faculty and this opened doors to greater collaboration among student teams, faculty and our stakeholders. Our state-of-the art auditorium seats over 1200 and has become a popular venue for campus events. Plans are underway to construct a state-of-the-art graduate centre.
- Improved Student Experiences: KSB has established itself as a leader of innovative approaches to experience-based learning. Every student has the opportunity to complete hands-on experiences through internships, management simulations, industrial trips (both local and international), and involvement in student led consulting projects.
- Improved Student Employment Rates: Employers in Ghana have taken notice of improvements at KSB and in a recent survey it was identified that the employment rate for graduates from KSB’s undergraduate programme is over 90%.
