The Accounting and Finance Department is one of four departments at the KNUST School of Business (KSB). The

Department boasts of excellence in research and teaching in Accounting, Banking and Finance related disciplines. It is part of our core mandate to disseminate world class knowledge in the above disciplines at levels that are unmatched in Ghana and the sub-region at large. A degree in Accounting, Banking and Finance opens a world of limitless opportunities to our graduates who are making great impact across the private sector, the financial services industry, NGO’s and government organizations. Since the establishment of the school, Accounting has been our flagship program at the Undergraduate Level. The department has produced some of the best accounting graduates in the country as evidenced by amongst other things, the consistently excellent performance they display on the professional accounting programs such as the ICA program. For instance, the department produced the overall best student at Level 3 of the ICA program in 2011, the overall best student at Level 3 in 2012; the Outstanding Female Award in 2013 and the Overall Best Student at the Part Four in 2013 amongst others.

Currently, graduates from the department are entitled to about six exemptions when they enroll on the ICA program. The Department has also obtained professional accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) which entitles our graduates to about eleven exemptions out of a total of 17 papers. Work towards obtaining accreditation from ACCA is far advanced and this would eventually result in about nine exemptions for our graduates. We are also about starting negotiations with the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana, for accreditation and maximizing the potential exemptions for our cherish graduates in Banking. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that most if not all our students (in Accounting, Banking and Finance) graduate not only with a degree but also a professional qualification in their relevant areas of study. This we believe will place our graduates one step ahead of the others making them the preferred choice of employers both locally and internationally.

The Department is also a leading provider of postgraduate education and research in Finance. Our MBA, MSc, MPHIL and new PhD programs in Finance are the most sought for in the country. Our postgraduate programs in Finance continue to attract interest from a wide spectrum of professionals and academics both in Ghana and Abroad. Our students include CEOs, Directors, MPs, Bankers, Finance and Investment professionals, the Self-employed and Lecturers from various Private and Public Universities and Polytechnics amongst others. Our lecturers are top class with a wealth of both academic and industrial experience and are passionate about transforming our economy by imparting knowledge through their teaching and research activities and service to the community. The Department is located in the Ayim Complex, at the School of Business. We have very spacious class rooms, well-furnished and fitted with air conditioners and modern PA systems.
